1714 33 Avenue Southwest, Calgary

Year of Construction: 1921

I heard the oral history of my home from an old gentleman who lived behind me. He had lived in the neighborhood since the 1940s. He told me that my home was an original estate home and was owned by Calgary’s first judge – Judge Wiley. He also told me my garage was the original carriage house and that during the 1930s a man lived in the garage.

He told me that as the neighbourhood fell into ‘disrepute’ the house was tiplexed then duplexed then finally bought by a geologist and gutted and upgraded. I bought the house in 1990 just as Marda Loop was beginning to be developed into the trendy neighbourhood it has become.
