Century Homes Calgary

Century Homes Calgary highlights and celebrates our built heritage through a city-wide celebration of homes constructed during Calgary’s first building boom.

That first building boom started in 1904, peaking in 1912 and ending with the start of the First World War. Many interesting and beautiful homes representing diverse architectural styles including Edwardian, Victorian and Craftsman were constructed. Today, these houses are found in a number of inner-city communities including:  Mount Pleasant, Inglewood, Sunnyside, Hillhurst, Elbow Park, Tuxedo Park, Mount Royal, Ramsay and Bankview.

Ever looked at an old house and wondered “Who once lived there?”, “What were their lives like?”, and “What stories does that house have to tell?”. Now you can find out!

During Historic Calgary Week, experience the story of Calgary, as told by Calgarians. Homeowners and residents have unearthed hundreds of great stories that will be on yard signs at participating homes.

Century Homes Calgary also recognizes the contributions of ordinary people who built these homes and this city. Our century homes not only define Calgary in terms of giving our city its own unique look, but they also ground us.

CENTURY HOMES CALGARY LEGACY PROJECTS

We are looking to develop other projects to support a network of Heritage homeowners that offers mutual support in the ongoing maintenance of their homes, Heritage management plans for historic communities in Calgary. By providing a variety of information to help homeowner to maintain and repair their house as well as local craft skills workshops for trades professionals and homeowners to run annually on permanent basis, it makes it easier to own a century home.
